Yes, entirely. Every tool on the site is free to use, with no subscription, no trial period, no watermark on your finished file and no limit on how many documents you process. There is nothing to purchase and nothing to unlock.
No. Encyrpt has no sign-up and no login. Choose the tool you need and begin, there is no registration step and no password to remember.
No. Encyrpt runs in your web browser. There is no application to download, no plug-in and no extension, and any up-to-date browser on any device will do. The single exception is Pomi, our desktop cat, a small free app for Windows, with its own questions answered at encyrpt.com/pomi/faq; every tool on the site is the browser alone.
Our document tools accept files up to 1 GB. In practice the limit is your own device, since your file is processed on it rather than on our systems: a very large document may take longer on an older phone than on a laptop. If a file is too large to handle comfortably, the tool will tell you rather than fail silently. Video, audio and pictures are bounded by what your device can hold rather than by a figure we set.
Encyrpt, with the “y” before the “r”. It is our brand name and it is spelled that way intentionally. If you see “Encrypt” used to refer to us elsewhere, it is a misspelling.
Open the tool from the menu or the home page search. Drop your file onto the box, or click Choose file. Adjust any settings the tool shows, such as a page range or a quality level, then press the main button at the bottom. The finished file downloads straight to your device, usually into your Downloads folder. Nothing is sent anywhere at any step.
Wherever your browser saves downloads: the Downloads folder on a computer, the Files app on an iPhone or iPad, and the Downloads folder in the Files app on Android. If your browser asks where to save each download, it will ask here too. Encyrpt never keeps a copy, so save the file before you close the tab.
Some tools take several files together because that is their whole job: Merge PDF, JPG to PDF, Merge Videos and Audio Joiner. Everything else works on one file at a time, which keeps the work on your device quick and predictable. To treat many files the same way, run them through the tool one after another.
It keeps a short list of the tools you opened most recently, so they are one click away next time, and that list lives only in your own browser. It records the names of tools, never your files or anything in them. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Encyrpt is built by a small independent team. We are not owned by a larger platform and we do not run an advertising business, which is what allows us to design the service around never receiving your documents in the first place.
Because the usual way to convert or protect a document is to hand it to a company you know nothing about. The files people process online are rarely trivial, visa applications, medical records, signed agreements, financial statements. We wanted a service where handing over the document simply is not part of the process.
There is no catch and no hidden cost. Because your documents are processed on your own device rather than on ours, the service is inexpensive for us to operate. We do not sell data, because we do not collect any. Should we ever introduce advertising or an optional paid plan, we will state it clearly on this page first.
No. We hold no accounts, no customer records and no copies of your documents, so there is nothing that could be sold, shared or handed to a third party. This is a consequence of how the service is designed, not a promise we are asking you to take on faith.
Yes, and it is often a better fit than conventional online converters precisely because your files are not sent to an outside company for processing, a point that frequently matters for confidential or regulated material. You remain responsible for your own compliance requirements, and each tool states plainly what it does and does not do well.

No. Your document is opened and processed on your own device, and the finished file is saved straight to it. At no stage is your file sent to us or to anyone else.
No. We never receive them, so there is nothing for us, or for anyone who might approach us: to look at, store or disclose. We cannot produce a copy of your document because we have never had one.
The simplest test takes a moment: open the site, then disconnect from the internet or switch on aeroplane mode, and use any tool. Everything continues to work normally, which would be impossible if your file were being sent away for processing.
We do not operate accounts, advertising trackers or analytics, so we hold no personal information about you. Your chosen language and light or dark appearance are remembered on your own device for convenience, and clearing your browser data removes them.
We use strong, current, industry-standard encryption of the kind relied on for banking and government material. Just as importantly, the key that protects your file is created from your passphrase on your own device and is never sent to us or stored anywhere.
Three small things, all kept on your own device: your chosen language, whether you prefer light or dark, and the names of the tools you used most recently. No file, file name or file content is ever stored. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all three.
Yes. Your file is opened inside the browser tab and nothing is kept once the tab is closed. The one thing to think about is the finished file itself: it is saved to that computer's Downloads folder like any download, so move or delete it when you are done if others use the machine.
It takes any file you choose, protects it with strong encryption, and conceals it among a large number of convincing decoys. You are given a single archive file to save wherever you wish. Without your passphrase, the contents cannot be read and the genuine material cannot be told apart from the decoys.
A password-protected file announces itself: anyone who finds it can see that something has been protected, and how large it is. A Vault archive gives away far less, because what it contains is indistinguishable from the decoys surrounding it.
The file cannot be recovered, by us or by anyone else. Your passphrase is never sent to us or stored anywhere, so there is no reset link and no recovery process we could offer. This is the necessary cost of a service that genuinely cannot read your files, and we would encourage you to record your passphrase somewhere safe before relying on an archive.
When protecting a document you may also require a second, ordinary file of your choosing, a photograph, for instance: to be supplied before the archive will open. It acts as a second key. If you use this option, keep that file somewhere safe and separate, because the archive cannot be opened without it.
Yes. Send the archive by whatever means you normally use, email, a messaging app, or a shared drive. Encyrpt has no sending feature and never holds a copy. For safety, give the recipient the passphrase by a different route than the archive itself.
The Vault is temporarily unavailable while we make some changes to it, and its page shows a short notice in the meantime. Everything described above is how it works and how it will work when it returns. Archives you have already made are entirely unaffected, they are files on your own device and do not depend on this site. Every other tool on the site is unaffected.
The text, headings and reading order carry across and remain fully editable, which is what most people need. The original page design is not reproduced exactly: a PDF is a finished, fixed page rather than an editable document, so some reformatting is normally required. For presentations, each page is placed as a full-page picture, which preserves its appearance precisely.
Your PDF is almost certainly a scan, a photograph of a page rather than text a computer can read. Run it through our OCR tool first, which recognises the words and makes them selectable, then convert it.
We support the current formats: .docx, .xlsx and .pptx. Older files ending in .doc, .xls or .ppt are a different and much older format. Open the file in Microsoft Office and re-save it in the current format, then convert it here.
We accept drawings in .dxf format, which every major CAD application can export. Files ending in .dwg are not supported. In AutoCAD, choose Save As and select AutoCAD DXF, then convert that file here.
Photographs taken in Apple's HEIC format cannot be read by most browsers. On your iPhone, go to Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose “Most Compatible” so that new photographs are saved as JPEG. Existing photographs can be converted on the phone before you use them here.
No. It removes a password from a document you already have the password for, so that you no longer need to enter it each time. It is not a password recovery tool and cannot open a document you are not entitled to open.
Redacting permanently removes the information beneath the area you mark, so it is genuinely gone from the document. Flattening fixes the entries in a completed form so they can no longer be edited, but the words remain readable. If your aim is to remove sensitive information before sharing, use redaction.
Recognising words in a scanned page is demanding work, and it is carried out on your own device rather than on a powerful server. A long document will therefore take some time. The first use also prepares the recognition tools, which is quicker on subsequent occasions.
In Merge PDF, add your files, then use the up and down arrows beside each one to arrange them. The finished document follows the order shown on screen, top to bottom. You can add more files or remove one at any point before you merge.
Open Compress PDF, choose To a target size, and enter the size you need in KB or MB. Encyrpt tries several settings to find the best fit under that size, so it takes a little longer than picking a quality level. If the pages cannot get that small and stay readable, it saves the smallest readable version and tells you how close it came; removing pages you do not need usually does the rest.
Most of a PDF's size is usually its pictures. A document that is mostly text is already compact, and Encyrpt tells you so rather than handing you a bigger file. Scans and photo-heavy documents shrink the most.
No, and it is worth knowing before you compress. To make a PDF smaller, each page is turned into a compressed picture, so the text can no longer be selected, copied or searched. Keep your original if you will need the text; for a document that must stay searchable, removing pages is a better way to save space.
Open Sign PDF, add your document, and draw your signature with a mouse, a trackpad or your finger. Place it on the page, resize it, and save. The signature is drawn and placed on your own device and never leaves it.
Yes. Edit PDF lets you change existing text as well as add your own text on top. Because a PDF fixes every letter in place, very large edits may not flow as they would in a word processor; for rewriting whole paragraphs, converting to Word, editing there and converting back is often easier.
Split PDF breaks a document into parts or into one file per page. If you would like each page as its own file, all gathered into one download, use PDF to ZIP instead.
Twenty-one tools, in five kinds of job. Editing: trim, crop, rotate, flip, resize, loop, change the speed or the volume, or do all of it at once in Video Studio and save once. Adding: a title or caption, a logo or picture on top, music or a voiceover. Fixing and shrinking: steady shaky footage, blur out a watermark, or get a file under a size limit. No, exactly as with every other tool on the site. Your video is opened and edited on your own device, and the finished file is saved straight back to it. Video files are usually the largest and most personal things people handle online, which makes this the case where not sending the file matters most.
The first video tool you open in a visit prepares a video engine inside your browser, which is a short wait. It is then ready for the rest of that visit, and moving between video tools afterwards is immediate.
Because the work is done by your own device rather than by a room full of servers. A short clip is quick; a long or high-resolution one, or a demanding job such as steadying shaky footage, will take longer, and a laptop on mains power will be quicker than a phone on battery. The progress shown is the real progress, not an estimate.
We impose no limit, but your device does: everything happens in your browser, so a very long or very high-resolution file is bounded by the memory available to it rather than by us. If you only need part of a large recording, trim it first and then do the rest, it is considerably quicker.
MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV and AVI for video, and MP3, WAV or M4A when you keep only the sound. If you are unsure which to save as, choose MP4: it plays almost everywhere.
Yes. The screen recorder captures a whole screen, a single window or one browser tab, with sound; the video recorder captures you from your camera and microphone. Your browser asks your permission first, and the recording is saved to your device as a file, it is never streamed to us or to anyone else.

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG and FLAC, in and out. MP3 is the safest choice if you are unsure, since it plays almost everywhere. WAV and FLAC keep every detail and are much larger, which is why they have no quality setting.

Nothing different, but it does it in one go. Each separate tool writes a new file, so trimming a track and then changing its volume means encoding it twice, with two waits and two rounds of quality loss. Audio Studio collects every setting first and writes the result once.
Ten tools. Resize by width or percentage, crop to a shape, turn or mirror a photograph, get a file under a size limit, put a solid colour behind a transparent picture, add your name or mark across it, adjust brightness, contrast and colour, and round the corners or cut it to a circle. Image Studio does all of that at once.
Because a picture is a single frame, and your browser can already scale, turn and re-encode a frame on its own. There is no engine to prepare and nothing to wait for, so what you see on screen is the finished result rather than a preview of one.
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and AVIF can be opened. You can save as JPG, PNG or WebP. WebP usually gives the smallest file at the same quality, and PNG is the one to choose when transparency matters.
JPG cannot hold transparency, so anything clear has to be filled with a colour on the way out. Save as PNG or WebP to keep it. The tools warn you before this happens, and rounding the corners of a JPG will fill them in for the same reason.
Smaller than most people expect, and the largest saving is usually in the dimensions rather than the quality. A photograph straight from a phone is often several times wider than anywhere it will be shown, so reducing the longest side first and only then lowering the quality gets a far better result than quality alone.
It draws the picture once. Cropping, straightening and shrinking a photograph with three separate tools means three rounds of JPG loss, because each one saves a new file. Image Studio collects the settings and draws the finished picture a single time.

No, it is a separate app, and it does not open or touch your documents. The tools on this site work in your browser; Pomi is a small app that keeps you company on your desktop. What they share is the same approach to privacy: what happens on your computer stays there.
No. When typing along is on, Pomi notices that a key was pressed, never which key, and nothing leaves your computer. The details are in the Pomi privacy policy at encyrpt.com/pomi/privacy.

Your browser may have held the download back. Look for a download icon or a small bar near the address bar, and allow it. Safari may ask once whether to allow downloads from this site. If you use a download manager extension, try again with it paused.
That usually means the browser ran short of memory for a very large file, since the work happens on your device. Close other tabs, try again, and for long videos or very large documents use a computer rather than a phone. Trimming a video first, or splitting a very long document, also helps.
It is most often one of three things. The document has a password: remove it first with Unlock PDF, using the password you know. The file is damaged: try Repair PDF. Or it is not really a PDF: check that the name ends in .pdf and that it opens in another viewer.
Each tool lists the formats it accepts under the drop box. Renaming a file does not change what is inside it, so save or export it in a supported format from the program that made it. Older Office files (.doc, .xls, .ppt), AutoCAD .dwg files and iPhone HEIC photographs are the usual cases, and each has its own answer above.
A converted document uses the fonts available where it is opened. If the original used a font your computer does not have, a similar one stands in. Installing the original font, or choosing a common font in the finished document, fixes it.
Email contact@encyrpt.com with the name of the tool, your browser and device, and what you expected against what happened. Please do not send the file itself unless it is not private; describing it is usually enough for us to find the problem.
Yes, with one practical caveat. Open encyrpt.com once and allow the page to load fully; you may then disconnect and continue working, and every tool will function normally. The caveat is that the page itself is not yet stored on your device, so refreshing or opening a new tab while offline will not work. Keep the tab open and you can work for as long as you like without a connection.
Open encyrpt.com in Chrome, Edge or Firefox and allow it to load, then open the tool you need. You may now disconnect from the network and continue; finished files save to your Downloads folder as usual. To keep Encyrpt readily available, Chrome and Edge can add it to your Start menu: open the browser menu and choose the option to install this site as an app.
Open encyrpt.com in Safari, Chrome or Firefox and allow it to load, then disconnect; the tools continue to work in that tab. In Safari you may also choose File, then Add to Dock, to keep Encyrpt a single click away.
Open encyrpt.com in Safari and wait for it to finish loading, then switch on aeroplane mode, the tools carry on working. To keep it to hand, tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen. Please note that this creates a shortcut which still needs a connection the next time you open it from cold.
Open encyrpt.com in Chrome and allow it to load, then switch on aeroplane mode and continue working. Chrome will usually offer to add Encyrpt to your home screen from its menu, which places an icon among your apps. As on iPhone, that shortcut still requires a connection when opening the site fresh.
Two kinds do, and only once per visit. Our text recognition tools prepare themselves the first time you use them, and the video and audio tools share an engine that prepares itself in the same way. Both are then ready for the rest of that visit, and neither sends your file anywhere in the process. The picture tools need nothing at all: your browser can already do that work.
It is a way of confirming our privacy claim rather than improving on it. The tools behave identically whether you are connected or not, because your documents are never sent to us in either case. If you would prefer certainty to assurance, working with the connection switched off settles the question.
English, for the moment. Nine further languages, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic: are translated and being read through before we put them in front of people, so the language picker is not shown until they are ready. Arabic will bring a fully right-to-left interface with it.
Yes. Every PDF, video, audio and picture tool works on a phone or a tablet, and the full list can be reached from the menu. Two things are worth knowing. Large documents and long videos are far more demanding on a phone than on a computer, so use a laptop for those where you can; the picture tools are light enough that it rarely matters. Pomi, our desktop cat, is an app for Windows computers, but its page opens on phones and tablets too.
Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on computers, tablets and phones alike. A very old browser may not be able to run the tools.
Yes. The button in the header moves between light, dark, and following your device's own setting, so Encyrpt can change automatically with the rest of your system.
Most difficulties come down to one of three things: a damaged file, a document protected with a password, or a scan with no readable text. Our repair tool can often recover a damaged PDF, the unlock tool removes a password you know, and OCR makes a scanned document readable.
