Yes, entirely. Every tool on the site is free to use, with no subscription, no trial period, no watermark on your finished file and no limit on how many documents you process. There is nothing to purchase and nothing to unlock.
No. Encyrpt has no sign-up and no login. Choose the tool you need and begin — there is no registration step and no password to remember.
No. Encyrpt runs in your web browser. There is no application to download, no plug-in and no extension. Any up-to-date browser on any device will do.
Our tools accept files up to 1 GB. In practice the limit is your own device, since your file is processed on it rather than on our systems: a very large document may take longer on an older phone than on a laptop. If a file is too large to handle comfortably, the tool will tell you rather than fail silently.
Encyrpt, with the “y” before the “r”. It is our brand name and it is spelled that way intentionally. If you see “Encrypt” used to refer to us elsewhere, it is a misspelling.
Encyrpt is built by a small independent team. We are not owned by a larger platform and we do not run an advertising business, which is what allows us to design the service around never receiving your documents in the first place.
Because the usual way to convert or protect a document is to hand it to a company you know nothing about. The files people process online are rarely trivial — visa applications, medical records, signed agreements, financial statements. We wanted a service where handing over the document simply is not part of the process.
There is no catch and no hidden cost. Because your documents are processed on your own device rather than on ours, the service is inexpensive for us to operate. We do not sell data, because we do not collect any. Should we ever introduce advertising or an optional paid plan, we will state it clearly on this page first.
No. We hold no accounts, no customer records and no copies of your documents, so there is nothing that could be sold, shared or handed to a third party. This is a consequence of how the service is designed, not a promise we are asking you to take on faith.
Yes, and it is often a better fit than conventional online converters precisely because your files are not sent to an outside company for processing — a point that frequently matters for confidential or regulated material. You remain responsible for your own compliance requirements, and each tool states plainly what it does and does not do well.

No. Your document is opened and processed on your own device, and the finished file is saved straight to it. At no stage is your file sent to us or to anyone else.
No. We never receive them, so there is nothing for us — or for anyone who might approach us — to look at, store or disclose. We cannot produce a copy of your document because we have never had one.
The simplest test takes a moment: open the site, then disconnect from the internet or switch on aeroplane mode, and use any tool. Everything continues to work normally, which would be impossible if your file were being sent away for processing.
We do not operate accounts, advertising trackers or analytics, so we hold no personal information about you. Your chosen language and light or dark appearance are remembered on your own device for convenience, and clearing your browser data removes them.
We use strong, current, industry-standard encryption of the kind relied on for banking and government material. Just as importantly, the key that protects your file is created from your passphrase on your own device and is never sent to us or stored anywhere.
It takes any file you choose, protects it with strong encryption, and conceals it among a large number of convincing decoys. You are given a single archive file to save wherever you wish. Without your passphrase, the contents cannot be read and the genuine material cannot be told apart from the decoys.
A password-protected file announces itself: anyone who finds it can see that something has been protected, and how large it is. A Vault archive gives away far less, because what it contains is indistinguishable from the decoys surrounding it.
The file cannot be recovered — by us or by anyone else. Your passphrase is never sent to us or stored anywhere, so there is no reset link and no recovery process we could offer. This is the necessary cost of a service that genuinely cannot read your files, and we would encourage you to record your passphrase somewhere safe before relying on an archive.
When protecting a document you may also require a second, ordinary file of your choosing — a photograph, for instance — to be supplied before the archive will open. It acts as a second key. If you use this option, keep that file somewhere safe and separate, because the archive cannot be opened without it.
Yes. Send the archive by whatever means you normally use — email, a messaging app, or a shared drive. Encyrpt has no sending feature and never holds a copy. For safety, give the recipient the passphrase by a different route than the archive itself.
The text, headings and reading order carry across and remain fully editable, which is what most people need. The original page design is not reproduced exactly: a PDF is a finished, fixed page rather than an editable document, so some reformatting is normally required. For presentations, each page is placed as a full-page picture, which preserves its appearance precisely.
Your PDF is almost certainly a scan — a photograph of a page rather than text a computer can read. Run it through our OCR tool first, which recognises the words and makes them selectable, then convert it.
We support the current formats: .docx, .xlsx and .pptx. Older files ending in .doc, .xls or .ppt are a different and much older format. Open the file in Microsoft Office and re-save it in the current format, then convert it here.
We accept drawings in .dxf format, which every major CAD application can export. Files ending in .dwg are not supported. In AutoCAD, choose Save As and select AutoCAD DXF, then convert that file here.
Photographs taken in Apple's HEIC format cannot be read by most browsers. On your iPhone, go to Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose “Most Compatible” so that new photographs are saved as JPEG. Existing photographs can be converted on the phone before you use them here.
No. It removes a password from a document you already have the password for, so that you no longer need to enter it each time. It is not a password recovery tool and cannot open a document you are not entitled to open.
Redacting permanently removes the information beneath the area you mark, so it is genuinely gone from the document. Flattening fixes the entries in a completed form so they can no longer be edited, but the words remain readable. If your aim is to remove sensitive information before sharing, use redaction.
Recognising words in a scanned page is demanding work, and it is carried out on your own device rather than on a powerful server. A long document will therefore take some time. The first use also prepares the recognition tools, which is quicker on subsequent occasions.
Yes, with one practical caveat. Open encyrpt.com once and allow the page to load fully; you may then disconnect and continue working, and every tool will function normally. The caveat is that the page itself is not yet stored on your device, so refreshing or opening a new tab while offline will not work. Keep the tab open and you can work for as long as you like without a connection.
Open encyrpt.com in Chrome, Edge or Firefox and allow it to load, then open the tool you need. You may now disconnect from the network and continue; finished files save to your Downloads folder as usual. To keep Encyrpt readily available, Chrome and Edge can add it to your Start menu: open the browser menu and choose the option to install this site as an app.
Open encyrpt.com in Safari, Chrome or Firefox and allow it to load, then disconnect; the tools continue to work in that tab. In Safari you may also choose File, then Add to Dock, to keep Encyrpt a single click away.
Open encyrpt.com in Safari and wait for it to finish loading, then switch on aeroplane mode — the tools carry on working. To keep it to hand, tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen. Please note that this creates a shortcut which still needs a connection the next time you open it from cold.
Open encyrpt.com in Chrome and allow it to load, then switch on aeroplane mode and continue working. Chrome will usually offer to add Encyrpt to your home screen from its menu, which places an icon among your apps. As on iPhone, that shortcut still requires a connection when opening the site fresh.
Two do. Our text recognition tools prepare themselves the first time you use them, and languages written in non-Latin scripts — such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hindi — retrieve their lettering the first time you select them. Both are then ready for future use.
It is a way of confirming our privacy claim rather than improving on it. The tools behave identically whether you are connected or not, because your documents are never sent to us in either case. If you would prefer certainty to assurance, working with the connection switched off settles the question.
Ten: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic, with the interface fully adapted for right-to-left reading in Arabic. Select your language from the globe icon in the header, or from the menu on a mobile device.
Yes. Every tool is available on mobile devices, and the full list of tools can be reached from the menu. Very large documents are more demanding on a phone than on a computer, so for those we would suggest a laptop or desktop where possible.
Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on computers, tablets and phones alike. A very old browser may not be able to run the tools.
Yes. The button in the header moves between light, dark, and following your device's own setting, so Encyrpt can change automatically with the rest of your system.
Most difficulties come down to one of three things: a damaged file, a document protected with a password, or a scan with no readable text. Our repair tool can often recover a damaged PDF, the unlock tool removes a password you know, and OCR makes a scanned document readable.
